Uses and Benefits

Essential oils are used in aromatherapy for their properties that allow them to treat a large number of diseases. These oils are concentrates of plants (flowers, herbs, branches and seeds) that possess the natural healing characteristics of each plant. Thanks to their properties essential oils can be used for hair treatments, in the skin, to treat pain and of course to relax.

Everyone who uses essential oils does so because of their many benefits. As we mentioned before, these oils are totally natural, and do not cause any side effects in your body. A very common use is in skin care, it can be to moisturize the skin, eliminate expression lines and even treat wrinkles.

Other uses for your essential oils are to breathe better, relax, help you sleep, have better concentration, help your immune system and in some cases can even treat wounds.

For a better use of your oils we recommend that you use a diffuser. This is the best way to get the particles into your system and take advantage of the therapeutic properties. Only use it topically for massage or use as a skin moisturizer.

Essential Oil Safety

In addition, of the uses and benefits offered by essential oils, you should know if they are safe. Of course we say yes, they are safe. They are a highly recommended natural product, but because they are highly concentrated you need to use them with caution.

When applying essential oils directly to the skin, we recommend that they be diluted first. Use any carrier oil, use the same amount of your essential oil mixture with a vegetable oil, such as coconut or jojoba. Apply to neck, temples, wrists, chest and scalp.

In case you want to use it as part of your aromatherapy, the oils are very safe. In fact, it is the most recommended method to use them. Spread 5 or 6 drops of your favorite fragrance around you and let the therapeutic properties do their work on your body.

If you want to ingest essential oils you must be more careful, as not all of them can be ingested. Only lemon and ginger oil can be consumed in low concentrations. However, Young Living’s Vitality line of essential oils was approved in 2019 by authorities in the United States and Canada as a dietary supplement.

This means that all Young Living Vitality oils are officially safe to consume.  By being approved by the FDA, you can be completely safe when consuming these essential oils.

How Are Essential Oils Made?

Essential oils are produced in two ways. The first is direct extraction from the plants, leaves, or flowers. In this process the oil is extracted under pressure and cold, the most complicated way to obtain essential oils.

The second way to obtain oils is through distillation. In spite of being a slower process, it is much simpler. It consists of putting the plant or its parts in a container with water and making it boil until the precious liquid is in the form of oil.

The method of distillation is the most widely used today, as extraction is still only used for citrus oils.

The Best Smelling Essential Oils

For you to have a home where you can breathe fresh, pure and healthy air, all you have to do is spread essential oils. If you opt for a chemical aromatizer this will not give you the benefits that you have in the oils. Also, chemicals disguise odors and do not eliminate the bacteria that cause them.

To have an excellent aroma and the best benefits, use a diffuser in any part of your house. You can diffuse relaxing aromas such as Lavender, Patchouli, Rosemary, Cinnamon and Sandalwood oils.

Other rich aromas are Eucalyptus, Mint, Lemon, Orange, Vetiver, Grapefruit or Tea Tree. All of them give you fresh air and bring you countless health benefits.

To accompany your essential oils you should use a carrier oil. Many use water, but it is best to use a vegetable oil that can be diffused with the essential oil. The best ones for this are Apricot kernel oil, Sweet Almond carrier oil, Coconut carrier oil, Avocado carrier oil and Olive carrier oil.

Of course you can use other carrier oils such as Jojoba, Safflower or Flaxseed. But keep in mind that the best ones are the ones named in principle.

If you are suffering from cold or allergy congestion you can add 1 or 2 drops to a glass water bottle full of distilled or purified water. Stir with a glass stirring rod to properly disperse the oils. If you dislike plain water and are avoiding sugar filled beverages such as soda you can add a drop of lemon, tangerine oil, orange or grapefruit oil to your water to add a healthy energy boost to your daily water intake. Oregano oil will also add a lot of zest to your favorite Italian or Greek dishes. You can also add a drop of Basil oil to any of your favorite sauces to replace fresh Basil if you do not have any on hand.
